Abstract:

As artificial intelligence has been used for manipulating elections and for authoritarian repression, it is important to ask how AI might impact democracy. Using concepts from political philosophy, this talk analyzes the impact of AI on key democratic principles and warns for a tendency towards totalitarianism. But it also stimulates discussion in a more constructive direction: how can we use AI to improve democracy?
